Final warning for Ottawa smart meter holdouts

Final warning for Ottawa smart meter holdouts

If you're one of the 270 Hydro Ottawa customers still without a new Smart Meter, you may see your electricity cut off.
In an email to Ottawa city councillors, Hydro Ottawa C.E.O. Bryce Conrad says numerous attempts have been made to get in touch with these final holdouts.
Conrad says final letters are being mailed out starting today, and a failure to respond by the deadline stated in the letter will mean the termination of service.
The power will only be restored when a smart meter is installed, and the customer pays a reconnection fee, which ranges from $65 to $415.
The number of cases represents less than 1/10th of one per cent of Hydro Ottawa's residential customers.
Smart meters were mandated by the provincial government to encourage Ontarians to think more about how and when we use electricity.
